I wouldn't call it "pioneering" - other than it is one of the longest surviving festivals in Aus. But there are far superior, vibrant electronic festivals in Australia, which also play a more diverse range of electronica, rather than focusing solely on headlining acts. Earthcore is a shadow of its former self, targeting the club scene and focusing on cash returns rather than building a festival community.

I'd recommend Rainbow Serpent over Earthcore any day - and also a whole range of smaller festivals that maintain a real art/culture/music blend rather than a sad tourist trap and roid-bro haven for refugees of the late Sterosonic festival.
