The interview flow is a bit hectic as it was done in many steps. Originally started as an email exchange in september 2014, this conversation was finalised only now. We have a big respect to Moreno, as he is a truly passionate about music and culture. He started producing music more them 20 years ago and since then never stopped. Enjoy<\/p>\n<p>interview taken in September 2014 &#8211; March 2015 by <a href=\"http:\/\/soundcloud.com\/gagarinproject\">Gagarin<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p> Hi Moreno, Thank you for finding the time to speak with us!<\/p>\n<p>When did you start to make music, and how did you move to the psychedelic sound?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I started playing music at a  very young age, lots of singing (folk songs) and messing around with percussion, pianos and guitars, but only at the age of 18 did it really click for me to seriously play bass guitar and start to play with bands.<br \/>\nSound is psychedelic, I never moved to a psychedelic sound, I was always into it (Sound).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p> What is the latest news for Master Margherita?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I am now working on the final details for my <a href=\"http:\/\/mastermargherita.com\/album\/afro-dots\">new solo album \u2018Afro Dots\u2019<\/a>, to be released on Blue Hour Sounds the 21st March 2015. A 22 track double CD that features a great variety of sounds and textures.<br \/>\nThe first CD will be for dance activities, the second CD more focused on psychedelic dub and chillout meditations. I chose this title because rhythms and percussion coming from Africa are a big influence for me, and I like dots. It is a new type of sonic micro-dot called AFRO ;)<\/p>\n<iframe style=\"border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/album=318747542\/size=large\/bgcol=ffffff\/linkcol=0687f5\/tracklist=false\/artwork=small\/transparent=true\/\" seamless=\"\"><\/iframe>\n<blockquote><p>Has your motivation changed or evolved into something different?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>My motivation gets stronger every day by never stopping to create music and playing around the world. Evolution is a natural process. I never stop improving upon my technique to be able to compose beautiful sounds.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p> Do you have other projects going on that you would like to share?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I am working on new music and new shows now with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Kukan Dub Lagan for the project <a href=\"http:\/\/mikelabellarecords.bandcamp.com\/track\/dub-to-africa-moon-mix\">\u2018Kukangherita Sound System\u2019<\/a>, a mix of dub and more urban beats. An album should be ready by the end of 2015. <\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/mastermargherita.com\/album\/kaleidoact-sci-fi-soundscapes\">KaleidoAct Show\u2019<\/a> &#8211; composing the music for the new 2014\/2015 show.<\/li>\n<li>\u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/mastermargherita.com\/album\/freakency-meditation\">Awakening Session<\/a>\u2019 &#8211; composing new meditative music for healing sessions and more quiet moods.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p>You play both psytrance and psychill. Do you think these two genres are strongly connected?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Everything is connected, didn&#8217;t you know? Music is ONE &#8211; the rest is just marketing strategies&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p> When was your last psytrance DJ set? Do you like mixing psytrance? How different is mixing trance compared to mixing downtempo?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This is my last psytrance set online <a href=\"http:\/\/mastermargherita.info\/revolution-festival-2014\/\">http:\/\/mastermargherita.info\/revolution-festival-2014\/<\/a> , recorded in Brazil on the 12th October 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The techniques and strategies for mixing a set changes with the music I wish to play, my mood and the crowd who I play for. It is quite hard to explain in a few words. Sometimes your mood changes the approach to a set, how you mix it and how you flow into it. All this, of course, is linked to the crowd and feeds back and forth endlessly.<br \/>\nThe more I play minimalistic pieces, the more my mix will be progressive and flowing. The more I play \u2018dense\u2019 pieces, the more I go for a \u2018cut\u2019 technique without mixing up the tracks together too much.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p> How do you like making people dance to psytrance compared to your downtempo sets?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I like both the same, there is no difference for me.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p> Do you produce Psychedelic Dance Music? How different is your feeling when you are composing mainstage oriented sound?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Yes i do, check these pages for some music to listen to: <a href=\"http:\/\/mastermargherita.com\/album\/afro-dots\">Afro Dots<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/mastermargherita.com\/album\/panorama-ep\">Panorama EP<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/mastermargherita.com\/album\/the-green-shift\">The Green Shift<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I feel always in the same space when I compose music, I don&#8217;t feel different because I am working on a piece that is more into the dance action than the meditative sound. These boundaries do not really exist, the same combination of sounds and rythms can give to every one of us a very different feeling.<\/p>\n<p>Music for the mainstage needs a good level of energy, what ever you do\/compose all goes into keeping the energy up as much as you like\/wish.<br \/>\nHopefully this would work for other people, dancing on the main dance floor.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p> What do you think about the evolution of psytrance music in the last 10 years? How do you see the future of psytrance ?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>First of all, it is not only about psytrance or goa music anymore &#8211; finally now the scene has re-connected with any kind of sounds that can trigger good experiences in the entheogenic mode.<\/p>\n<p>The psychedelic scene has evolved a lot for the better since I started playing around 1998. The party goers are more tolerant and open minded, they want more variety of sounds, more quality. I remember a time when people did not like this style or that style and they were \u2018fighting\u2019 about it. I believe this is not the case any more. A young person who comes into contact with the psychedelic scene nowadays listens to all kinds of sounds, from Dark to Light, from Fluffy to Hard, Slow or Fast &#8230;.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p> Let\u2019s talk a little bit about music festivals. What are the festivals that are putting a big effort into providing a space and the right conditions for downtempo music?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Now we have a lot of interesting festivals around Europe that have a very nice setup for chillout music. Boom Festival, Glade (rip), Lost Theory, Mo:Dem, Ozora, SUN, Ruigoord Summer Solstice, and many more &#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p> What about indoor events, did you experience good indoor chill events?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Any big city in Europe have good locations with chill music, most of them active aside from the psychedelic scene, venues connected more with Art Schools, Dance, Theater or Alternative Cultural Centers.<br \/>\nI played some awesome locations in ambient mode with bands and sound systems : castles, churches, big old houses, an underground brewery in Berlin, inside a gigantic fridge in Bologna (Cacubo).<br \/>\nLots of fun !<\/p>\n<blockquote><p> Would you please list some of the important moments in your music biography ?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We are talking about moments since 1989,  there are so many of them &#8211; let me try to write some down below :<\/p>\n<p>1989 The release of my first album (in vinyl) with the band Changes.<br \/>\n1992 Arrival at the Jazz School EJMA in Lausanne\/Switzerland.<br \/>\n1995 Creation of the trio \u2018Chestbusters\u2019, my first live project in ambient &#038; dub techno, that led me to play at Goa parties.<br \/>\n1996 I started composing\/producing music with machines &#038; electronic devices under the name of Master Margherita.<br \/>\n1998 Founded the label Casalinga Production, my very own label entity.<br \/>\n2001 Winning a prize for the movie \u201cXieme\u201d at the Locarno Film Festival.<br \/>\n2001 The meeting with Ajja, Dymons, Flooting Grooves and Gaspard that led to the creation of The Peaking<br \/>\nGoddess Collective and the experiments in the Organic Trance Arena<br \/>\n2003 Founding Peak Records with Tanya, Ajja &#038; Gaspard.<br \/>\n2004 The creation of my<a href=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/mastermargherita\"> podcast channel \u2018Music for Chillout\u2019<\/a><br \/>\n2005 The release of my first compilation, VA Chilling Goddess, with Peak Records.<br \/>\n2006 Playing at Boom Festival for the first time.<br \/>\n2007 The release of my first solo <a href=\"https:\/\/electrikdream.bandcamp.com\/album\/mastura\">album \u2018Mastura\u2019<\/a> on Electrik Dream Records.<br \/>\n2009 The release of my second solo <a href=\"http:\/\/mastermargherita.com\/album\/hippies-with-gadgets-2\">album \u2018Hippies with Gadgets\u2019<\/a> on Peak Records.<br \/>\n2010 Jam Session at Boom Festival with Robert Rich and Jaques Dudon.<br \/>\n2011 The release of my third solo album <a href=\"http:\/\/mastermargherita.com\/album\/the-marginal-rules\">\u2018The Marginal Rules\u2019<\/a> on Blue Hour Sounds.<br \/>\n2012 The release of my first <a href=\"http:\/\/mastermargherita.com\/album\/panorama-ep\">psytrance album \u2018Panorama\u2019<\/a> on Blue Hour Sounds<br \/>\n2013 Playing and having fun at the Fractal Planet camp at Burning Man Festival.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We made a nice round of different subjects, it was very interesting to discover more of your reality.
